I read in The Pipe Smoker's Ephemeris that John Grawe collected metal pipes and "unusual system" pipes. As luck would have it, I had, as part of a lot from eBay that had a couple of pipes I wanted, a Thoro-Klean aluminum pipe. I called John and asked if he wanted it. He said he'd be glad to have it; so, not wanting it for myself, I sent it off to him. A few days later, I was delighted to find this pipe and #143 in my mail. John not only sent me these two pipes, he sent me some literature and an advertisement from the early seventies that were quite helpful in writing the History of the Pipe. What a nice fellow he is! It took six years to find a better example of the shape/color, but eventually one came along and this one is now one of the Pipes for Sale. Bill Moore thought it would fit his collection nicely so now it is his.
